The waiting period for the 2011 Peligroso At Todos Santos big wave surf contest is under way! After the grassroots success of the Todos Santos Event that was won by Mark Healey in 2010, Peligroso Tequila signed on as the title sponsor for the 2011 contest and
will be offering up an impressive $30,000 purse for the overall event winner. Between now and February 28th, the best big wave surfers in the world will be on call in hopes that mother nature cooperates and serves up the required 30 foot surf to run the contest.
Invitees for the contest include: Mark Healey, Carlos Burle, Greg Long, Jamie Sterling, Kohl Christensen, Chris Bertish, Grant "Twiggy" Baker, Peter Mel, Shane Desmond, Anthony Tashnick, Ramon Navarro, Marcos Monteiro, Kelly Slater, Cristian Merello, Shane Dorian, Kealii Mamala, Grant Washburn, Ken "Skindog" Collins, Coco Nogales, Rusty Long and Dave Wassel. New to this years event will be an early "local heat" of Todos Santos regulars who will compete for a spot in the main event. The local heat will include Garth Engelhorn, Derek Dunfee, Diego Pertusso, TJ Seaman, David Rutherford, Will Dillon, John Walla and Juan Valdivia.
Check out the trailer below with some of the highlights and horrific wipeouts from the contest last year, along with some commentary from the surfers.
We work hard to maintain the validity and accuracy of the information we provide in our Before You Go guide to traveling into Mexico, and coming back to the United States. We source our information through government websites and the direct relationships we have with community and government leaders both in the United States and Mexico. Our team is based in San Diego and crosses the US/Mexico border often. It dawned on me at the last minute that I might need Mexican insurance when I drove my car in...co so I researched it and it turns out that yes, you need liability insurance from a Mexican insurance agency to drive your own vehicle in Mexico. The online process was easy. It just took a few minutes and cost about 40 bucks for 4 days. You can purchase by the day, month, 6 months, etc. I'll use them again if I need to.

This was another trip for me to Baja. It was better than ever. I was really trusting Baja Bound...surance this time around. The traffic was a bit more harrowing this time when traveling between cities. I was thankful to have a great policy from Baja Bound due to a couple of near misses on the hi ways. Fortunately we spent most of our traveling off road, away from any traffic for miles around. Such a sense of security of having the insurance was most comforting on this trip. Each trip to Mexico is a learning experience of how to pack and what to bring; and due to Baja Bound's advice, I really loaded up on tires and tire repair items this time. They were unused; but, like Baja Bound insurance, it added a comforting atmosphere to the off-road adventure, knowing any hazard could be dealt with. Key: plan ahead! (2025 is the third of many more relationships with Baja Bound Insurance to come.)

Easy process to obtain insurance for my trip. The company reminded me a week before the trip to...cure insurance. Thanks.
Unfortunately I was unable to make the trip due to health reasons. If the insurance had been transferable I would have transferred to another member of our group who took over the driving task.
