Dust In My Sandals: Tales From a Baja Traveler

Freelance writer and long-time Baja Bound Bulletin contributor, Martina Dobesh, known for her Baja Storyteller column, recently published a collection of her most loved stories in a book now available on Amazon. The collection includes many of her articles published on our website as well as additional stories not previously published. The book is an excellent travel companion to take along on Baja trips. It gives readers heartfelt insights into some of Baja's well known and lesser known destinations. Even if you can't make the trip to Baja, the book will transport you there through the eyes of the author. Dust In My Sandals captures that "Baja feeling" Baja travelers know well!

Martina writes:

“Road trip! Pull out that map! Come with me! One thousand miles of open road beckons you. Taking time to explore the unexplored riches of Baja California is a life changing experience.”

And with this invitation the reader begins the journey into the hidden secrets on the roads less traveled into Baja California. Written in storyteller form, the Baja traveler will encounter the mystery and magic of the rugged wonder of the peninsula. The author’s prose will call you into her world as if you are riding along with her and will travel briefly through the cities, going south through the deserts to the Gulf of California. The bountiful stories will introduce the readers to the people met along the way and reveal the history of the Indian groups who inhabited the peninsula thousands of years ago. The glorious beauty of the Gulf of California region is a must for any person who has not yet travelled to Baja Sur. Dust in My Sandals records the author’s true-life experiences and the book will speak to anyone who yearns to explore into the heart of the land and the people of Baja California.

Praise from Graham Mackintosh, Baja author and adventurer:

"Dust in my Sandals by Martina Dobesh is an amazing book. Mostly a collection of articles Martina wrote over the years for Baja Bound...and the final chapters telling of her adventures on a shrimp boat out of Mulege and her burgeoning romance with the boat skipper would grace any book. The content roams the length of the peninsula, from San Quintin and Don Eddie’s landing to Guerrero Negro and Loreto and San Javier. There are very readable and informative sections on Baja's natural history and wildlife all told from Martina’s adventurous and sympathetic hand, every one replete with her love and appreciation of the peninsula and its peoples past and present."

About Martina

Dust In My Sandals: Tales From a Baja Traveler
Dust In My Sandals: Tales From a Baja Traveler

Martina first visited Baja California in 1992 which changed her life forever. Soon after, she followed her heart and moved to Baja full time. Martina has lived in both Baja California (Norte) and Baja California Sur. Living in Baja has given her the freedom to explore many corners of the peninsula which became the inspiration for her writings.

Martina shows you this awe inspiring peninsula through her clear prose. As she shares her love of this great land called Baja California, she reveals its magic by tapping into the true meaning of storytelling. Throughout history, storytellers have been skilled at the art of capturing the imagination of the members of their tribe with historic and mythical wisdom; wisdom that spoke to the tribe’s heart and soul. Storytellers enhance life and bring meaning to their people. Martina has a way of capturing the present moment with words and as they say, the present is a present.
