Punta San Jose is a great place to take off for the weekend to camp and get some waves. It is usually best on south swells, but can also get good on a big west swell too. The wave itself is a right point with several different sections that can vary depending on the tide and conditions. When it gets good you can take off from the bay on the outside and make it all the way past the main takeoff zone for a really long ride. Because of the point that juts out to the north and offshore kelp beds the waves stay cleaner here than the most of the other nearby spots. That said, the wind here tends to cause upwelling, making the water really cold, even during the summer. Punta San Jose is recommended for intermediate surfers on up, since the reef can get tricky. Booties are recommended for protection and also to keep your feet warm!Updated: Feb 27, 2013 02:24 PM
