When the architects and designers of Trump Baja in Punta Bandera sought inspiration for their masterpiece, they looked to the work of internationally acclaimed 20th Century Mexican architect Luis Barragán. Known for his minimalist style and sumptuous use of color, Barragán used pure planes to express a spiritual connection between buildings and nature.

The influence of artists such as Barragán and other brilliant 20th Century modernists including Frank Lloyd Wright can be immediately felt in the austerity, clean lines and geometric shapes of Trump Baja. A bold design by Guerin Glass Architects mimics the fractured and broken geometry of the Baja California coastline itself. As the architects describe, “Asymmetrical terraces and pools hug the site’s jagged surfaces and rise from the cliffs to the base of dramatic angular towers.”

The use of stone and glass hints at a duality of desert and water. Upon entering the lobby tower residents will feel instantly at ease with its warm earth tones, liberal use of horizontal lines, and two stunning wrought iron candelabra hung with small but inviting candle shaped lamps. At once spacious and intimate, the use of these lights coupled with floor to ceiling windows works to create an extremely welcoming space.

Interior designer Robyn Scott of Scott Knapp explains, “We try to get down to the true essence… by keeping the interior pure and simple. Each element has a purpose in the overall design concept, leaving it perfectly balanced and elegant.” Each of the 525 suites which may be customized according to 18 different floor plans has been orchestrated Scott and her partner Elizabeth Knapp to unify a classically retro 1960s look with the best of contemporary luxury.
