Vinícola Emeve is the creation of Mexican businessman Mario Villarreal whose daughter Laura manages the winery. Villarreal dreamt of creating his own wine, something of beauty to offer to wine lovers all around Mexico. Enlisting the help of noted winemaker and enologist Reynaldo Rodriguez (an Ensenada native who received his formal training in Spain), Villarreal obtained cuttings from the University of California, Davis and in 2004 set about planting grapes.
By 2006, Villarral and Rodriguez were ready to release their first commercial wines including a Bordeaux blend and an excellent Malbec-Cabernet. Within just three years these wines were winning gold medals and acclaim for their memorable aromas and delicious taste.
Emeve wines have been described as "Young, fresh and elegant with good acidity and tannins". Aged in French and American oak barrels, the wines have received acclaim from the school of enology and gastronomy at Universidad Autonoma de Baja California and also featured on "The Grapevine: Mexican Wine and Food Adventures". One of the most meaningful compliments bestowed upon Emeve wines came from "The Good Table" which detected notes of mango and ancho chile in the aroma of a 2007 Emeve Cabernet Sauvignon, naming it a "truly Mexican wine".
One of the most popular Emeve blends, Los Nietos is a mix of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot showcasing rich red fruit aged in French oak for 14 months. Other memorable wines include their Armonia de Tintos 2007 (Harmony of Reds) ~ a sensual blend of Grenache, Carinena, Merlot and Syrah ~ which pairs beautifully with cheeses and powerful sauces; the velvety, ruby hued 2007 Cabernet-Merlot; and the sweet floral clarity of the 2007 Rose.
Vinicola Emeve currently produces more than 3,000 cases per year offered for sale through its official website and in person at the exquisite Valle de Guadalupe location. Seated upon 945 acres of beautiful terrain between Francisco Zarco and El Porvenir, Vinicola Emeve features its own tasting room amid an endless sea of gorgeous vines. It makes a lovely place to visit with friends.
Emeve wines can also be enjoyed at Tijuana's French restaurant L'Abricot where Villarreal's other daughter Maribel is the Chef/owner.
