Traveling With Pets in Mainland Mexico vs. Baja

We usually go to Baja... but we're heading into mainland Mexico this time. Do we have to fill out different paperwork to bring our pets along?

Generally speaking, if you're traveling within 30 miles of the US/Mexico border, you probably won't be asked for your paperwork. Despite this, if you love your pet and would like to have a relaxing vacation, it's a smart idea to carry the paperwork with you anyway.

If your adventures are taking you into mainland Mexico, some travel clubs say that it is necessary for you to file your paperwork with the Mexican Department of Agriculture. However, neither the Mexican Consulate nor the Mexican Department of Agriculture seem to be aware of this requirement.

According to the Mexican Consulate, it is enough for you to file your paperwork with Mexican Customs when you cross the border. However, we'll keep an ear to the ground for any changes in that regulation or new information!
