New Wave Trip was founded 5 years ago by Rick Cowley when he started teaching surfing lessons in Malibu, California. The work combined two things he loved: teaching and surfing. Not only did he get to play in the water all summer and become friends with his students, he also got to travel the world for the rest of the year.
In January of 2005 an inspirational idea entered his mind and has not left since: taking people to Baja on cultural learn-to-surf day trips. The Baja Surf Experience is Rick's first step towards his dream of taking people surfing in beautiful new places.
Their specialty is a guided day trip from San Diego to Northern Baja California, Mexico. You will learn to surf on a beautiful beach, with none of San Diego's surfing crowds! You will eat delicious authentic Mexican food. You will see amazing places, learn about Baja history and culture, and become friends with the guides and other guests. The camaraderie on our surf trips adds a special element.
New Wave Trip also offers overnight trips, staying in their Baja beach house. The accommodations are surf camp style: rooms are shared, meals are family style, and you become friends with the other guests around the nightly campfire.
The overnight and day trip guests eat lunch together on the beach front balcony, and if there are some experienced surfers staying at the house, they may even share some of their wisdom with the beginners. The house is great for families, couples or friends who want to hang out together as well as meet other adventurers.
For the experienced surfers, the beach break out front is fun, La Fonda is 10 minutes away and San Miguel is 20 minutes away. Surf all three every day if you want.
