Scorpion Bay, Ripping Cutback - Baja Surf Guide

Although it has been built up and developed in recent years, Scorpion Bay still remains a classic Baja surf destination. Three perfect points in a row reel off righthanders when big south swells hit. The prevailing north wind blows offshore, keeping the lineup groomed all day long, and the points can get good on a variety of tides. Rides over a minute in length are not uncommon. For years it has been rumored that on some of the biggest days ever surfed here, people have connected all the way from third point to the inside bay....although we have never come across a surfer that saw it happen firsthand. You really do need a direct south swell in order to get waves here, but the nice thing about Scorpion Bay is that there are other surfing options to the north within walking distance that are more open to the west. When it is small, it is a great wave for beginners because it is so perfect. On bigger days you will need some experience and endurance to get waves out there.
